4 Simple Steps to Get Your Local Business Ranking on Page One of Google Right Away
Are people finding your business?

If you aren't getting new customers from Google search, you aren't alone.

It is the top driver of consumer decision making, yet many businesses struggle to grow as it can be difficult to rank on Google.

If you're not ranking near the top right now, you're missing out on a ton of potential business...
It's not enough to optimize your site and hope for a miraculously high ranking from Google. Their algorithm is much more sophisticated than that.

Once you get to the top for high traffic keywords, the traffic and revenue growth is staggering.

But once you fall to the bottom of page 1, and beyond, the traffic drops considerably you are lost in a sea of other businesses within your community.
It's human nature. Many people just don't go past page 1 of Google.

In order to rank as close to the top of Page 1 as possible, you need to attack your company's ranking like a professional.

Part of the problem for many business owners is that they aren't sure HOW to improve their ranking. They believe ranking to be driven by your marketing budget and ad spend.

The shocking fact, is that it is quite simple to rank high. The strategy is actually quite simple.

It doesn't happen overnight, but it doesn't have to take years either.

I'm going to share the 4 step process that I've implemented for countless businesses to rank on page 1 of Google in their area:
Step 1: Keyword Research
Google search results are keyword driven.

That is to say, if you are an HVAC company, you probably want to show up near the top of search results for "HVAC" in your area.

The best way to do this is to steal your competitors keywords!

You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

If you have a competitor who’s ranking on page one, it’s easy to find out what keywords they’re ranking for and then take those keywords for yourself.

You don’t have to spend hours doing extensive keyword research, and you’ll get a sneak peek at what your rivals are doing.

The first step is to head over to SEMRush.com (creating an account is free) and type in your competitors URL to view their keyword ranking stats.
I like to personally verify the rankings for some of the top keywords by typing them into Google myself.

This first step in the process is extremely important, because it sets up the rest of your SEO strategy.

You have to pick the right keywords that will outrank your competitors, and are also generate a lot of Google traffic.

An additional resource for keywords research is SpyFu.com and UberSuggest just in case you want to try out which software you like best.
Once you have researched and decided on the specific keywords you want to rank for, it's time to get to work...
Step 2: Optimize Your Site
This is a very simple step...

But one you CANNOT ignore when it comes to ranking high in Google.

You have to optimize your site with the appropriate Meta Tags (tags placed in the head section of your code that help define the contents of a web page).

Most websites make this easy without having to know how to code. Wordpress, Shopify, Clickfunnels and many others have walkthrough guides on how to update these tags.
Once you've combed through your site and updated this, you'll also want to make sure the functionality and overall design of your site is clean easy on the eyes.

You're probably wondering why that matters when we are trying to appeal to an algorithm to rank high.

Well it's because visitor experience weighs heavily in how well you rank on Google, and because of that we want your site optimize for low bounce rates.

Make this small tweaks, and you're ready to move onto Step 3...
Step 3: Get in the Local Pack Listing
There are a few places that people tend to look when they’re searching on Google.

The first result (page one, position one) is one of those places.

But there’s some prime Google real estate that can get you tons of clicks. And if you use the right strategy, you can get your business featured here.

This place is called the local pack.

You might not know what that is just by hearing the name, but I guarantee you’ve seen it before.

It’s that block that pops up under the map when you search for businesses. It looks like this:
There are only 3 spots available in the local pack, so it seems like it’s highly competitive and difficult to claim one for yourself.

Thankfully, it can actually be pretty easy:

The first thing you want to do it set up your Google My Business account.

To set it up, head to https://www.google.com/business/ and click one of the green “Manage Now” buttons.
Fill out all of your information to register your business.
Once you've done this, it's important to make sure your NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) is listed on the important pages on your website (e.g., home page, about page, services page, etc.).

Usually it goes in the footer area.

Using your NAP correctly is an extremely important part of marketing your local business, so don’t pass it up.

It also increases your chances of getting in the local pack.

Even if you don’t end up in the local pack, that’s okay because Google My Business is good for local SEO in general. Just by setting it up, you already have a huge advantage.
Step 4: Content Creation and Promotion
Content, Content, Content.

Put up weekly blog posts on your site.

Create videos.

Have active social media accounts that share links back to your content.

THIS HAS TO BE DONE CONSISTENTLY.

But just as important as consistent content, is relevancy.

If you're an orthodontist, you shouldn't be writing blog posts about engagement rings.

Getting content on your site is time intensive, but it is a critical piece to building website authority and backlinks.
Backlinks take place across the Internet when one website mentions another website and links to it.

Also, referred to as “incoming links,” backlinks make their connection through external websites.

These links from outside domains point to pages on your own domain.

Whenever backlinks occur, it is like receiving a vote for a webpage. The more votes you get from the authoritative sites creates a positive effect on a site’s ranking and search visibility.

By rule of thumb, I spend 4x the effort in promoting my content than I do actually creating it. Because if nobody sees it, or it doesn't help me rank, what am I creating it for?
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you want to get your local business ranking on page 1 of Google right away these are the 4 steps:
